April Lockhart

April Lockhart, born in 1995 on the 4th of July, started taking piano and guitar lessons from age seven. The passion for writing songs was ignited. At the age of seven April started taking guitar and piano lessons. This ignited her interest in writing songs. The singer spent much of her time when she was 14 composing songs and experimenting with the piano. Then she began to take trips to write with her father, who lived in NY as well as LA. April featured other topics in her song"Take my Hand. These topics were meant for the friends of hers who struggled with issues such as peer pressure disabilities or even teen suicidal thinking. Lockhart is also gaining a growing following as a lifestyle influencer and works for popular clean beauty company Ilia. Her birthplace didn't come with a left hand, and that is the reason she's what she is. It's just not the whole story. So, Lockhart's Instagram account isn't afraid to talk about her handicap, however it's not focused on her disability either. What message is it sending? That we all contain multitudes and that we are all unique and we're greater than the physical person we are. Lockhart stated in a video interview that she does not want to be defined by her handicap. She doesn't wish to be a disability advocate who only talks about disability. There are a lot of aspects of Lockhart. It doesn't impact my day-to-day routine. I still do all my normal activities and have adjusted to my disability. However, I also consider that it is a crucial component of my life. The journey of self-acceptance that Lockhart has taken is one that will last an entire lifetime. She can be a role model with regard to this. She still admits having gone through a series of phases in her body, and felt insecure at times to wear clothing that displayed the arms of her. The woman now puts on whatever clothes she wishes and shares pictures on her Facebook page with pride. Self-love, according to her, is like a journey. "I believe that you will ever be in that place," she said. That's true of everyone regardless of their insecurity. It's important to have people that know and appreciate your situation. They will be the ones who ask you: What do you worry about?
